| DVM celebrates birth anniversary of Hari Singh | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Sept 22: The 118th birth anniversary of Maharaja Hari Singh was today celebrated in a function organized by Duggar Vikas Manch (DVM) at Tawi Bridge. The function was presided over by MLA from Bishnah Ashwani Sharma while Ashok Khajuria MLA, Jugal Kishore MLA were the guest of honours on the occasion. The presidents of all the prominent Sabhas and Social Organisations of the State joined to pay homage to the Lt. Maharaja Hari Singh emphasizing on the contributions by him. Several speakers highlighted the various facts of his personality and good governance. The program started with a Hawan Yagya to pay homage to Maharaja. Ashok Khajuria while paying tributes to Maharaja, highlighted that he was the true example of secularism. He also informed about the reforms which Maharaj Hari Singh introduced and some of the orders and progressive Laws which were enacted by Maharaja Hari Singh within the first few Years of his rule. Jugal Kishore MLA in his address on the occasion appreciated the Role of the Maharaja as a social reformer who had waged a relentless war against untouchability and highlighted that in his this act, he had to face stiff opposition from orthodox Hindus as he had thrown open Schools, Tanks, wells, and temples to, who came to be known as, Harijan. Ashwani Sharma, MLA paying rich tributes to Maharaja said that it was only because of the wisdom and political vision of the Dogra rulers of the J&K State that the people of entire State did not suffer the British tyranny as the people of the rest of country were suffering during 200 years of British Rule in India. Prominent others who spoke on the occasion included S.S. Bijral, B.S. Salathia, Yashpal Gupta, Shamsher Singh, Abdul Gani Kohli and Roop Lal Bharti. |
