EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Oct 13: A joint delegation of J&K College Teachers Association (CTA), representing both Jammu and Kashmir Wings, today called on Minister for Higher Education, Mohd Akbar Lone. The delegation led by President J&K College Teachers Association (Jammu Wing), Dr Avinash Kumar Gupta demanded parity in superannuation age of College Teachers with the University Teachers of the State and also enhancement of retirement age to 65 years as per UGC Regulations of 2010 on minimum qualifications for appointment of teachers and other academic staff in universities and colleges and measures for the maintenance of standards in higher education. Dr Avinash Gupta impressed upon the Minister that UGC regulations of 2010, cover pay scales, academic obligations, appointment and qualification as well as promotion rules for both the college as well as university teachers, yet college teachers are retired at 58 years while as university teachers retire at 60 years, with possible extension/re-appointment provisions, by the same Higher Education department which funds both colleges and universities in the State. Earlier, Dr Avinash Gupta also discussed with the Secretary Higher Education Department, Sheikh Mushtaq Ahmed, the issue of grant of advance increments to college teachers as per UGC clarification, extending benefit of SRO-222 to College teachers, placement of teachers in PB-4 and framing of CAS rules.
