| Kashmir unrest a result of power tussle | | | Early Times Report
SRINAGAR, Oct 13: A general feeling is emerging in Kashmir that the prevailing unrest is the tussle of power politics between some political parties.
According to sources, majority of people in Kashmir realize that the present turmoil is neither a struggle for so-called Azadi nor secession of Kashmir from India but only a power game in which the so called pseudo- secular politicians are involved and to outwit each other these politicians in one way and other way want that the pot should remain boiling to their best advantage.
Sources said some well meaning people and progressive politicians in Valley who have are fed up with 24 year long turmoil in Valley are looking for a viable political alternative in Kashmir which in real sense will reflect the aspirations of common man in all the three regions of the State. The political activists who remained associated with progressive movement in Valley during their prime youth in sixties and had maintained a stoic silence during the 24 year long turmoil or gone into oblivion have now decided to break the ice and jump the political arena in the State to play a positive role in bringing trouble-torn State back on rails.
Sources said these progressive activists are in close touch with their friends and associates in other two regions of the State i.e Jammu and Ladakh and they are working for a viable political alternative in the State minus NC-Congress -PDP and other such political parties which remained close to seat of power in one way or the other since independence.
Sources said in this regard these progressive political activists have decided to rope in those political organisations of the State who have progressive, young and dynamic leadership and believe in socialistic and secular character and bring them on a single platform to bring the State out of present mess and restore its original glory.
They said this progressive group of politicians is also in complete touch with members of civil society also and has discussed the issue with them threadbare. These progressive political activists while ruling out any tie up with the recently constituted Third Front in the State said that the role of these parties who have been part of this Front has not been different that the three main parties of the State, sources added.
Sources said that these activists are in constant touch with leaders of Peoples Conference (PC), trade unionists, former activists of Democratic National Conference and other progressive groups in Valley as well Jammu and are likely to announce the formation of a United Front to bring the factual position before the masses and unmask those traditional leaders who exploited them for their vested interests while ignoring the real issues being faced by the people.
Sources said these progressive activists are of the opinion that real issues facing the people of the State including poverty, corruption, unemployment and price hike need the attention and the successive governments ignored these problems which led to a rebellion by the people against the establishment and became the cause of prevailing turmoil
But to put the State back on rails the sources said the progressive group of politicians in Kashmir who have championed for the Naya Kashmir movement and were in one or other form responsible for framing of Constitution of the State based on progressive lines are worried by present happenings and want to rid the State of this mess. |
