Dengue epidemic fear grips Kathua Administration ill-equipped to counter threat

Kathua, Oct 13: The fear of Dengue and malaria epidemic looming large in Kathua, mosquitoes bites have become a commonplace menace in the district with so far 4 people having being detected positive with the disease since its outbreak in September.
Though all of them are recuoerating well, the fear has overtaken the general populace in the district about the Dengue attack.
Sources maintain that Kathua is precariously susceptible to 'Dengue' virus due to the heavy influx migratory Industrial labour population, although, the unhygienic condition of Kathua town is very much vulnerable for all types of mosquitoes but for 'Ades Egypti', the mosquito carrying the Dengue virus, the most appropriate period is from August to mid of November.
"It is just start of Dengue season and there is possibility that more cases could be detected in coming times. Municipal council claimed for spraying medicines over the water bodies and fogging is also on in the Kathua's various wards like w.no.1,2,3,4,13,10,Tara Nagar, Shiva Nagar while the vast area is yet to complete but in fact all seems in vain because nothing is being noticed on ground.
The mosquitoes are flying carrying danger in the entire area of Kathua town and people are living under the constant fear of dengue attack.
Experts informed that the threat of Dengue virus is more at the time when the number of mosquitoes is on a decline.
So this is the time when mosquitoes bite more. Importantly, the mosquitoes carrying Dengue virus bite during day time. These mosquitoes (Ades-Egypti) contrary to the general perception are found in clean water which is mostly available in the houses. The Municipal Council told that it has only two Fogging Machines and very less number of operators. This shows the Municipal Council, Medical Department and the district administration is not in state to counter the danger of dengue which means thousands of lives have to forcibly face the dangerous consequences of the Dengue if it breaks out.
The concerned district administration should come forth seriously with more and more advanced system to counter the Dengue threat and so that thousands of lives could be protected.
