| Metrology Deptt imposes Rs 20,000 fine against defaulters | | | Jammu, Oct 14: Department of Legal Metrology imposed a fine of Rs 20,000/- on two erring traders for cheating consumers by overcharging & for selling pre packed goods without marking mandatory declarations required for the information of consumers. According to Manoj Prabhakar Deputy Controller Consumer protection, a consumer complained of charging more than the marked price on lubricants while getting service of his car by the dealer. In other complaint, a hardware trader was booked for selling packed locks & other house hold hardware items without marking MRP & address of the maker. "On inspection the complaints were found genuine, accordingly cases was registered under the provisions of existing rules for the said violations and notices issued, said Dy Controller LMD. Both the defaulters pleaded for composition with the assurance to rectify the defects and the cases were compounded by imposing a fine of Rs 10000/- each.
