| Omar threatens to sack Ghulam Hassan Mir | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Oct 14: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has threatened to sack Agriculture Minister Ghulam Hassan Mir, who was allegedly paid by Army, as per the leaked report, to sack the Omar Abdullah government. In an interview to a national daily, Omar had said" The day any illegality is proved. I will sack him (Ghulam Hassan Mir)." It was the first time the Chief Minister had spoken about the Agriculture Minister. His party leader Mustafa Kamaal had already demanded his resignation. Mir had categorically and assertively told in the media and also in the Assembly that he didn't take any money from the Army. Mir is an affiliate member of the Congress and the party has not asked him to resign. The Chief Minister had in the past sacked Cong ministers on rather flimsy ground but had not taken such and action against his own minister when serious and grave allegations surfaced about them in the media. Omar had first sacked then R&B minister GM Saroori, though his name has been cleared by investigating agency and then sacked then education minister Peerzada Sayeed, both from the Congress. This time also he is threatening to do the same but is unlikely to have his way. Omar is issuing these political threats at a time when elections are round the corner and Cong is in assertive mode. He is issuing such threats also because Cong didn't become party to the privelage motion moved by the NC to call former army to the Assembly. Cong was not happy with this public posturing of the NC and also the manner in which issue was raked up it put the Army in the bad light and Cong is wary of its consequences as it may affect its political fortunes. Congress is increasingly becoming assertive and this is not going to the liking of Omar Abdullah who had enjoyed power at the expense of the Congress. |
