EARLY TIMES REPORT
Jammu, Oct 14 : Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah, believes firmly that the allegations leveled by former Army Chief, Gen.V.K.Singh against politicians and ministers in Jammu and Kashmir as if they have made us "suspicious" of being paid agents of the Army. In his latest interview Omar does believe that the central Government's handling of the issue was separate from Gen.Singh's allegations. The Chief Minister has made it clear that it was a tough job for mainstream politicians in Kashmir and the job has been made more difficult by Gen.Singh's allegations. Omar Abdullah has said that the revelations made by the former Army Chief had damaged democracy in Kashmir. He has expressed his surprise over the claim of Gen .Singh that the Army used to pay to politicians right from 1947 for maintaining peace, stability and for winning the hearts of people when actually militancy had raised its head in 1990. Chief Minister has almost echoed PDP leader Muzaffar Hussain Baigh's views by saying that it was not possible for the Minister for Agriculture, G.H.Mir, to destabilise the NC led Government. Still in reply to a question Omar has said that he has left the issue of resignation to Mir's conscience because it is a "question of morality." He added that he would sack Mir the day any illegality against him is proved. Omar Abdullah has, in reply to another question, said that the issue of summoning the former Army Chief to the Assembly within a time bound frame was in the hands of the speaker of the Assembly. He has said that besides summons being issued by the Assembly speaker he (Omar) has requested Prime Minister to order probe into the allegations leveled against Kashmir politicians by Gen.Singh.
