early times report Srinagar, Oct 14: Vodafone India, one of India's leading telecommunications service providers, under its 'Gift a Smile' programme today donated laptops to Sakhawat Center in Srinagar on the auspicious occasion of Id-ul-Azha to facilitate computer literacy of the under privileged children of J&K. The initiative is aimed to benefit students who want to learn and explore, but don't have the required resources. Yousaf-ul-Umar Chairman Sakhawat Centre (under Iqbal Memorial Trust) and Mir Mohammad Ashraf, Secretary Sakhawat Centre (under Iqbal Memorial Trust) received the laptops to be used for the programs in Center. Speaking about this initiative, Business Head - Punjab, HP and J&K, Asit Shekhar Vodafone India said, "As a value-based organisation, we at Vodafone believe in making a meaningful contribution towards the society. This initiative was done keeping with the spirit of Eid to spread joy through giving. We wanted that these children should be at par with the rest. These laptops will help them gain basic computer knowledge which will certainly help them in their future endeavours." Yousaf-ul-Umar, Chairman, Sakhawat Centre (under Iqbal Memorial Trust) while explaining the functioning of the NGO said, "The Iqbal Memorial Trust has been working to rehabilitate the lives of orphans in J&K. With an objective of making its social welfare activities more broad-based, the Trust had set up the Sakhawat Centre in J&K in June 2005. This endeavor by Vodafone is a great feat and will benefit children who are willing to learn and explore but lack opportunities greatly." |
