| 'India Post to accelerate modernization of Post Offices in J&K' | | | early times report Jammu, Oct 14: The Department of Posts in Jammu & Kashmir is accelerating the modernization process of Post Offices in a big way to provide customer friendly environment and services to the public. This was disclosed by Chandra Prakash Chief Postmaster General, Jammu and Kashmir Circle. In first ever interaction with the press here in Jammu the newly joined Chief PMG J&K Chandra told that Department of Post is celebrating National Postal Week from 09th October to 15th October in the state by carrying out various activities. Commenced with World Post Day during the National Postal Week celebrations, many programmes are being organized in Jammu and Kashmir Postal Circle to educate customers and general public about traditional and new mail and parcel services, Savings Bank Schemes and Life Insurance Services. The Chief Postmaster General also briefed about future plans citing that India Post has planned its transformation to shoulder more responsibilities and for this it has tied up with eminent companies under Information Technology Modernization project for skill development of all postal officials and computerization of all 1.55 lakh post offices up to village level. Post Offices in cities have already been computerized and rural Post offices are also to be covered by the end of next year. In J&K work has started on this prestigious project and soon Core banking services will also be made available in major post offices and ATMs will be installed at select post Offices. Under Project Arrow many Post Offices have been modernized and modernization of many other Post Offices in the State is in process. For improving services to the customers Department of Posts is not only computerizing services, but it is also providing online tracking of mails and consignments of Speed Post, Express parcel, registered letters, money orders, registered parcels etc. By networking of services through central server our mail services, parcel services, money transfer services, Post Office Saving Bank and Postal Life Insurance will soon be available to the public in a more customer friendly environment. The Department in J&K is also going to hold all India Postal Cricket Tournament also from 21st to 25th October at Srinagar. Teams from 13 Postal Circles will participate, added Prakash. |
