| Slaughter House project nowhere in sight even after 6 yrs | | Entangle in tendering process | | early times report JAMMU, Oct 14: Owing to the slow paced modus operandi of the state government, the much anticipated slaughter house project by the concerned agency is likely to get further delayed even after the lapse of six years. Sanctioned in 2007, the project, which remained stuck at the tendering stage for long, has finally moved past the tendering stage and the contract has been awarded to a Ghaziabad based firm. Yet the work will start only after the file pertaining to award of contract will be vetted and approved by the concerned government department. Sources state that they had completed all the formalities involved and work on the much delayed project would kick off shortly. The modern slaughter house project worth, Rs 20 Cr, was sanctioned by the central government way back in 2007. It was stuck at the tendering stage for long. Sources privy to recent developments on the issue have confirmed that the "job order has been issued and that the work will begin shortly." The slaughter house will be constructed at Jagti on an area of 75 kanals of land. The first installment for the project, an amount to the tune of Rs 2.03 Cr, was released in the first phase. The existing slaughter houses in Rehari, Gujjar Nagar and Dogra Hall are an environmental hazard and local residents have long been complaining about these abattoirs to be shifted to some other place. They have even protested many times in the past. But after dithering much over the issue, the concerned department has moved past the tendering stage and awarded the project to EFF DEE Enterprises, a Ghaziabad based firm. "There were a total of three bidders out of which EFF DEE Enterprises bagged the contract. The file has been sent to the department in the Secretariat. The work will begin after it is vetted by the department," said an official. The proper slaughtering of animals is an environmentally sensitive issue. To meet the requirements of proper slaughtering, a facility, which provides for proper disposal of waste emanating out of the process, is needed. The waste generated needs to be properly disposed of to meet the standards set by Environmental Protection Act, 1986, thereby causing no harm to the environment. |
