Mehbooba slams Omar for hostile remarks on ceasefire

Early Times Report

SRINAGAR, Oct 23: Opposition PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti today criticised Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah for his remark on ceasefire violations by Pakistan, saying as a CM, he should have worked for peace rather than promoting hostility between the two countries. "Being Chief Minister of a state that has been the worst victim of violence, he should have worked for peace rather than promoting hostility between the two countries," Mehbooba said in a statement here. She accused the NC-led government of trying to create instability and an atmosphere of fear in the state ahead of the elections. "Omar Abdullah's war mongering and advocating attack on Pakistan is part of design and the present government can go to any extent to create a disturbed situation," she alleged. The PDP chief said instead of advising caution and restraint, Omar has joined the hawks in calling for an outright war, which indicates the "insensitivity" of the Chief Minister towards the interests of the state and its residents.
"While the ceasefire violations have caused tremendous difficulties, it is regrettable that he is calling for a war between the two nuclear powers," Mehbooba said.
Omar had on Monday said the Centre should look at other options if Pakistan continues to violate the ceasefire along the Line of Control.
The PDP chief also criticised the state government over other issues like unemployment, alleging that there was no transparency in the selections to government jobs. She said the government had created hype about providing employment to the youth and also announced "fast track" recruitment through different institutions. "The so-called fast track recruitment has not taken off even two years after it was announced," she claimed.
