Jammu, Oct 23: Showing utter negligence towards their duties, the doctors and paramedical staff deputed at ward number, 12, 14 and 15 of Government Medical College and Hospital, abandoned the dengue patients for more than five hours on Wednesday night, with entire responsibility of patient care in these wards left to a single nurse.
Patients informed Early Times that previous night all the doctors and paramedical staff left for their houses to celebrate 'Karva Chouth', leaving behind more than two hundred patients admitted at three wards including 12, 14 and 15. "There was only one nurse, who was manning all these three wards. At around 6 PM some attendants observed, that there was no doctor, nurse and any other paramedical staff in three wards where most of the patients suffering with 'dengue' are being treated", said an attendant preferring anonymity. "Absence of doctors and other paramedical staff in three wards, especially in ward 12 where dengue patients are being treated, gripped panic among the patients as well attendants", another patient regretted. Jasveer Singh, another attendant said that the situation went tense when some attendants entered into verbal duel with the only nurse on duty. Anguished over absence of doctors and paramedical staff, the attendants called on Casualty Medical Officer (CMO).
Reckoning seriousness of the situation, CMO on night duty called doctors and other medical staff, and about 11pm the staff suddenly appeared at their respective wards. Attendants further appealed to Chief Minister, to order an enquiry into carelessness of GMC's management. "CM should take action against such careless government servants who have been playing with the lives of people", they pleaded. |
