23 persons arrested in Keran Sector
Exfiltration bid foiled

Kupwara, Oct 23: At least 23 persons including men and children comprising of 6 families were detained by Army in Keran Sector of frontier district Kupwara when they were allegedly trying to exfiltrate into Pakistan administered Kashmir (PAK). Police sources told CNS that 13 Brigade of Indian Army during routine patrolling spotted men, women and children who according to sources were trying to exfiltrate into Pakistan administered Kashmir.
Sources said that the Army encircled them from all sides, however the Guide Bashir Ahmed from Kachhama Kupwara managed to give a slip to Army and exflitrated into PAK.
All the 23 persons were detained by Army and handed over to Police Station Keran. A police official on condition of anonymity said one of the detained person is the brother of Liberation Front leader Late Muhammad Maqbool Bhat.
"The total number of arrest are 23, including 6 men, 4 women and 13 children. Some of them had returned to Kashmir under Rehabilitation Policy a year ago," the official said.
Reports said that all the male members have been lodged in police station Thregam while women and children have been shifted to Police Station Kupwara. However, Station House Officer Thregam told CNS that the incident has occurred in Keran and nobody is lodged in his police station.
Some of the arrested persons have been identified as Syed Munir-ul-Hassan Shah son of Ghulam Muhammad resident of Kurhama Kupwara presently residing in HMT Srinagar, Fayaz Ahmed Wani son of Muhammad Munawar resident of Haihama Kupwara, Mushtaq Ahmed Mir son of Muhammad Ismail resident of Baba Demb Srinagar, Zahoor Ahmed Bhat son of Ghulam Qadir Bhat resident of Thregam Kupwara and Aijaz Ahmed Khwaja son of Mubarak Khawaja resident of Maliyal Kupwara.
