| Manjit demands one time settlement for displaced persons, refugees | | | Early Times Report
Samba, Nov 1: Senior Congress leader Manjit Singh appealed the government for one time settlement of the displaced persons/refugees of 1947, 1965 and 1971. "The Union Government is interested to fulfill the demands but the non-serious approach of the bureaucracy in the state has been creating hurdles," Manjit Singh said. Singh was addressing Congress party workers monthly meeting at Vijaypur. The senior Congress leader said that the State Government should take immediate steps for the salutation of the demands of displaced persons. "There was a need to grant property right to the displaced persons and it has to be granted by the State Government," he reminded, while saying that the people along the International Border (IB) have been facing tough time. These people should be given backward status to the border people, the people along International Border be given five marla posts and rent to the farmers for the land ahead fence. He further expressed concern, while saying that the flood hit areas of Samba district have been facing problem but they were not given compensation by the Government. He said that the flood hit Samba districts after river Devak and Basanter flooded with rain water. |
