| Geelani playing the Indian game in Kashmir to weaken NC, says Kamaal | | Upcoming Lok Sabha, Assembly elections | | Rustam JAMMU, Nov 1: Is Tehrik-e-Hurriyat chief and fanatic Syed Ali Shah Geelani an Indian agent? Is he playing the Indian game in Kashmir to weaken the National Conference (NC)? Are Geelani and Jamat-e-Islami working in tandem to help the People's Democratic Party (PDP) recapture the state power and win the upcoming parliamentary election? The answer will be yes when viewed in the light of what NC additional general secretary and uncle of Jammu & Kashmir (J&K) Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, Mustafa Kamaal, said the other day. On Wednesday, Kamaal said that the Government of India was helping Geelani to weaken the NC. "Not only Pakistan but New Delhi (read Congress-led UPA Government) is also providing monetary assistance to Geelani and other like-minded separatist leaders to uproot NC from the political map of the state," he was quoted as saying. "Geelani was released to persuade people, especially the supporters of Jamat-e-Islami , to cast vote in favour of People's Democratic Party candidates in the forthcoming Parliament and Assembly elections…Geelani & Co will now visit the NC bastions to enforce election boycott and would urge upon Jamat-e-Islami supporters and leaders to help PDP during elections…The PDP and Jamat-e-Islami are hand in glove while Geelani is playing a key role in strengthening their bond," he also reportedly said. Earlier, Kamaal used to accuse New Delhi of floating the PDP to dislodge the NC government in 2002. He used to say that it was the BJP-led NDA Government in New Delhi that hatched a conspiracy against the NC and helped Mufti Mohammad Sayeed form PDP and weaken the NC. The NC lost the 2202 and 2008 Assembly elections very badly. Something is fundamentally wrong with the NC additional general secretary. However, one thing becomes more than evident from the statements he makes at regular intervals: The NC vote-bank is vulnerable and the NC has become so weak in the Kashmir Valley that its leadership is seeing in Geelani, Jamat-e-Islami and the PDP its biggest enemies. His statements are nothing but a manifestation of his frustration and desperation. It is a different story that he doesn't acknowledge that the NC has lost all its credibility by indulging in politics of opportunism and it is no more considered as a party that represents the popular sentiment in Kashmir. And the popular sentiment in Kashmir means the utter failure of the NC-Congress coalition to hand down corruption-free, honest, transparent, accountable and people-centric governance. Indeed, the NC-Congress coalition government has disappointed the people across the state and it's no wonder that the bulk of population in the state is anxiously waiting for an opportunity to punish both the parties. |
