| Fire breaks out in Jora's chamber | | Estates Department under scanner | | Early Times Report Jammu, Nov 4: The Estate Department's carelessness could have proved disastrous for Nawang Rigzin Jora, Minister for Urban Development when fire broke out in his chamber today morning after darbar opened in Jammu. The fire broke out in Jora's chamber when a roof light melted due to short circuit. The furniture and other valuable items were gutted in the fire but tragedy was averted as Minister was not in his chamber. The incident has exposed the Estates Department which according to sources has been indulging in open loot by executing sub standard works in the Civil Secretariat and other government buildings. "They have hired few contractors who have some political background and work on their whims and fancies. They use poorest quality material but submit bills of highest quality. They have been doing this since long but there is no check on them," said an informed sources raising serious allegations on the Estates Department. They said that contractors associated with Estates Department have become money minting machines and shares of their illegitimate earnings reach all over. "This time also the short circuit happened because of that poor quality material, including wire and metal which are not good enough to carry the load," sources added. An employee of the Civil Secretariat said that the Chief Minister himself must intervene and probe the functioning of this department which is working directly under him. "There are only corrupt people sitting at the helm of affairs and have been making huge money," an employee of Civil Secretariat added.
