| SI, HC held hostage for hours by angry mob | | | early times report Jammu, Nov 4: A Sub Inspector (SI) and Head Constable (H/C) had to face wrath of angry mob which not only roughed them up but also held them hostage for hours following they allegedly misbehaved with some senior citizens of Birpur. "Both cops after being held hostages for hours were released after intervention of senior police officers, police sources said. However, after the incident, people of the area held protest demonstration and raised anti police slogans. They added that the duo identified as Sub Inspector Javed and Head Constable Mushtaq Ahmed. The incident took place when a police party led by Sub Inspector Javed and Head Constable Mushtaq Ahmed posted at Police Station Channi Himmat alongwith their team, going beyond their jurisdiction conducted a raid at Birpur locality following some inputs about gambling is in progress on Deepawali night. After reaching there they started inquiry about the gamblers in the area and during the process they allegedly misbehaved with the senior citizen of the area namely master Balvinder Singh. Later they questioned one Ashok Singh a shopkeeper of the area and also misbehaved with him. Both the persons when objected the Police men gave them a bash which led to clash between locals of the area and police party and situation took ugly turn and it sparked strong protest in the area under the leadership of Goutam the Sarpanch of the area. Sources said that in this violent incident, three police vehicles were damaged while SI Javed got a fractured left arm. "Both SI and H/C were held as hostage by irritated mob however the duo was released only after intervention of senior police officers, sources said. Sr Superintendent of Police (SSP) Samba Issrar Khan when contacted told that Samba police was not informed by the Channi Himmat Police before entering into jurisdiction of Samba police. SSP further said that after the news of clash reached to Samba Police , the SDPO East and SDPO Bari Brahmna rushed to the spot. Meanwhile the matter was appraised to the DIG Jammu Kathua range Shakeel Beig, who reportedly had called SHO concerned as a part of inquiry of the matter.
