Kuldeep Raj Verma hails State Govt for OBC census
'Appeals to implement Mandal Commission recommendations'

Akhnoor, Nov 24:Vice Chairman of Advisory Board for Welfare and Development of OBC, Kuldeep Raj Verma today hailed the State Government for its steps to conduct census of the Other Backward Class (OBC) people who have been reeling under poor conditions. "This was long pending demands of the OBC people and it was finally accepted by the State's coalition Government," Kuldeep Raj said here addressing a public meeting.
Kuldeep Raj, who hailed the decision, said that Congress party in Centre as well as in State has been working for the upliftment of the downtrodden people and this step has again proved the seriousness of the coalition Government in J&K. He further said that following the census the total population of OBC people in J&K would be clear and it would help to secure reservation as per the Mandal Commission's recommendations. He, however, appealed that soon after the census, Government should implement the recommendations of Mandal commission for the benefit and upliftment of the OBC people. Meanwhile, he also hailed AICC president Sonia Gandhi, AICC vice president, JKPCC president, Prof Saif ud Din Soz, Union Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad, MP Madan Lal Sharma and, Revenue Minister of State (Independent) J&K, Ajaz Khan and congratulated coalition Government in J&K, for their efforts in highlighting the demands of refugees/displaced persons. He said that it was the sincere efforts of the Congress leadership that the State Government finally decided to discuss about the compensation to the refugees/displaced persons in the scheduled cabinet meeting. He said that the Government should not delay and accept the demand of the displaced persons for one time settlement.
The Vice Chairman of OBC Advisory Board further said that there should not be any disparity between the urban or rural displaced persons/ refugees since both were the suffers of wars between India and Pakistan. He said that they deserve equal treatment with regard to compensation.
