| Parties get ready for pre-poll flag war in J&K | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Nov 30: Mainstream political parties are getting ready for a poster and flag war first during the pre-poll campaign for the Lok Sabha election and later for the Assembly election. Party sources said that the National Conference leadership is preparing to repeat the pattern of flag war it had introduced in the pre-poll campaign during the crucial Assembly election in 1977. It was right from Banihal to Kupwara that the entire valley and parts of the Jammu region were decorated with NC flags. And it was this flag war that helped the NC to score over other parties by winning absolute majority in the Assembly. According to these sources, the PDP too has decided to counter NC's flag war by decorating Party's green flags and posters, carrying pictures of Mufti Mohammed Sayeed and Mehbooba Mufti, besides buntings. Reports said that flag war between the NC and the PDP will be held mainly in the Kashmir valley with some pockets displaying Congress flags and buntings. As far as the Jammu region is concerned, it will be essentially a Congress and the BJP show as far as flag war is concerned. According to these reports, BJP sponsored flag war may be held on a big scale provided all the seven legislators, expelled from the party, were taken back. Inside reports said that senior leaders of the state unit of BJP have been opposing, tooth and nail, re-entry of Prof. Chaman Lal Gupta in the party but field reports indicate that the BJP may face difficult situation if Gupta was not taken back in the party. |
