| Sensing defeat in Rajasthan, Azad talks about Cong role in freedom struggle | | Yes, BJP is political organ of RSS | | Neha JAMMU, Nov 30: A very strong anti-Congress wave is sweeping in Rajasthan. The Congress knows it. That's the reason most of the senior Congress leaders, including their "Bharat Mata/Lakshmi Bhai" (Sonia Gandhi), talk more about the RSS, BJP and Narendra Modi than about people's problems, corruption, scams, high food prices, acute unemployment problem, internal security, economic health, developmental issues, social situation, issues of governance and so on. On Friday, Union Health Minister and former Jammu & Kashmir Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad not only did the same but also sought votes from the people saying the RSS and the BJP didn't play role in the freedom struggle. "The BJP is only the face whereas its heart, mind and body is of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). The RSS and BJP have made no contribution in the country's freedom struggle. The BJP is only the face, its heart, mind and body is of RSS. People should vote in favour of his party (Congress) to defeat the right-wing BJP. We are the true relative and caretaker of the public," he said while addressing a poll rally in Naval Sagar on the last day of electioneering in support of Mamta Sharma, National Commission for Women chief and Congress candidate from the Bundi Assembly Constituency. He did not say anything new while claiming that the BJP is the face of the RSS. Indeed, the BJP is the political organ of the RSS and there is hardly any BJP leader who doesn't say publicly that he/she feels proud of being part of the RSS. Everybody knows that the Bharatiya Nana Sangh, BJP's earlier incarnation, was founded seven years after India attained freedom from the British. In other words, the BJP was formed in 1952. Hence, the question of the BJP playing any role during the freedom struggle doesn't arise. As for the RSS, which was founded in 1925 and which believed, and continues to believe, that India is one state, one people and one nation, it was a socio-cultural organization whose one of the top agendas was nation-building. The RSS leaders and Swayamsevaks played their role during the freedom struggle days in their own way and suffered repeatedly at the hands of the British Government. Hence, to say that the RSS and the BJP did not play any role in the freedom struggle would be only to mislead the people. It appears Azad, like many other Congress leaders, is blissfully ignorant about the history of Indian freedom struggle. And why the way how can leaders like Azad claim that it was because of the Congress's role that India won independence. It's an absolutely false claim. India attained independence because there was pressure from the below and the British had realized that the sooner they quit India the better. The Congress in the pre-1947 period did launch few agitations but did not take any of them to a logical conclusion, as most of the Congress leaders were not prepared to face the British wrath. Leaders like Azad cannot fool the people. It would be better if they focus on developmental, nation-centric, democratic and economic issues. Such an approach may help the Congress to remain relevant. |
