| GMC students' protest continues for third consecutive day | | | Bashir Assad SRINAGAR, Nov 30: For the third consecutive day today, the undergraduate students of Government Medical College Srinagar, held strong protest demonstration in the GMC compound demanding cancellation of admissions of tainted candidates who allegedly bought papers to qualify CET 2012. Hundreds of medical students assembled in the GMC compound today in the morning and held demonstrations demanding cancellation of admissions of tainted students and severe punishment to former BOPEE chairman, Mushtaq Ahmad Peer. The protesting students burned the effigies of Mushtaq Peer and demanded that in order to restore the pride and glory of the College, tainted students should be expelled without any delay. Protesting students carrying the banners and placards and raising slogans like, 'Restore Pride, Expel Culprits' 'Kick The Backdoors Out' 'Hang Mushtaq Peer', marched towards Karan Nagar Chowk where police stopped them and the students peacefully returned back to the college premises. President of Undergraduate Students Union, Faizan Yunus, said the protest of students would continue until government initiates action against the guilty. 'Our reputation is at stake. We all are being looked as suspects and therefore the guilty should be ousted from the College so that all other students could breathe freely," he said demanding that government should make public the list of candidates who have made it to the GMC through unfair means and action should be initiated against them to ensure that entire college doesn't get a bad name. However, the agitating students after observing a brief sit-in outside the college premises returned to their classes. Meanwhile, justifying the agitation of the undergraduate students of the college, Principal Government Medical College Srinagar has said that they can't disqualify any student till facts are not established. "Neither Crime Branch nor any other investigating agency has approached us in this regard so far. Till facts are not established, tainted students can't be expelled from the College," Dr Rafiq Ahmed Pampori has said. He has said that whatever information we are getting so far is coming all from media. "Whatever happened was not good. So many things will come out now. Ultimately it is the hardworking student who is feeling the brunt of this paper leak and selling scam," Dr Pampori said. |
