| CAPD deliberately delaying ration supply | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Nov 30: Despite brewing public resentment, the Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution (CAPD) Department has failed to ensure proper supply of ration at its outlets well on time with the result majority of consumers are left high and dry. According to sources, the CAPD authorities are deliberately delaying the supply of ration to its distribution ghats up to last dates of the month so that maximum ration holders are deprived of the same to sell it in black later. Sources said despite the reports of sale of CAPD ration in black and unearthing of various scandals in the State especially in remote areas of Doda, Kishtwar, Gool, Ramban, Poonch, Mendhar, the Department has failed to ensure proper checking mechanism. The ration is supplied during the last two or three days on CAPD depots with the result heavy rush of consumers turn up and some are deprived of month's supply as the depot holders refuse to issue ration after the expiry of the month and sell the same in black. Sources said the issue was taken up with the Minister CAPD, Ch. Mohammed Ramzan by various delegations without results. They said at various CAPD depots the depot holders deliberately delayed in taking supply during last dates of the month so that to save the ration and supply the same in black to migrant laborers and shopkeepers on exorbitant rates. What has irked the consumers most and what has been the cause of brewing public resentment is that the authorities failed to take action against the erring officials and deport holders, sources said, adding there is a total nexus between the depot holders and CAPD. Sources said that the depot holders also misbehave with consumers in case they raise a voice in this regard and especially the quota of sugar and K oil is not many times issued to consumers by the depo holders on the plea that the supply has not come. Taking serious exception to working of CAPD, the people have demanded a high level probe into the style of functioning of the Department and punishment to erring officials. |
