| Peace imperative for development, prosperity of J&K: Mufti | | Maj Gen (Retd) R S Jamwal joins PDP | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Nov 30: Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) today received shot in the arm with the joining of President of Jammu and Kashmir Dharmarth Trust Major Gen (Retd) R.S. Jamwal in the party with his supporters.
Patron of PDP Mufti Mohammad Sayeed welcomed Major General Jamwal in the party and exuded confidence that PDP would utilize his vast experience to restore lasting peace and prosperity in the state.
"There is need that experienced and clean people like Jamwal join politics because politics is not just to attain power but also to deliver good governance to the people", he said.
He added that PDP would channelize experience of Jamwal to fulfil its agenda of establishing a new system of justice and equality in Jammu and Kashmir.
Speaking on the occasion, Jamwal said that as a soldier, who served the Army for 40 long years, joining politics was a hard decision but I realised that by joining the right party one can play important role in shaping future of the coming generation.
"When I say right party, PDP is the only party which has visionary agenda for the people of the State", he said. "Politics can be utilized as a mean to restore peace, strengthen brotherhood and accelerate developmental activities, provided one should have the vision and commitment. Peace and reconciliatory policy being propagated by PDP leadership has convinced me to join this party because PDP is a party of future in J&K," Gen. Jamwal said.
Terming Mufti Mohammad Sayeed as crusader of peace in this region, General Jamwal observed that for PDP peace is not just a political slogan but it is core of party's agenda. "It is desire of Mufti Mohammad Sayeed to establish lasting peace at the grass root level", he said and recalled that during his tenure as Chief Minister of the State from 2002 to 2005, Mufti Mohammed Sayeed had proved how to translate peace agenda at the ground zero level.
General Jamwal, who was born in Mirhama village of Kulgam district of South Kashmir, is aware of the problems of both the regions of the state. "I am aware of the problems of both regions so after joining politics I will utilize my vast experience as professional to solve problems of both the regions", he said and assured PDP leadership that he would help the party to aggressively pursue pro-peace agenda.
"I have seen how PDP president Mehbooba Mufti works. She is the only politician of her generation in Jammu and Kashmir who is aware of the grass root level issues", he said. Major General R S Jamwal, AVSM, has an inspiring career in the Army.
After his retirement from the Army, he was given very important assignments. He served as Head and Professor of General Zorwar Singh Chair in Jammu University.
He was also assigned the important job to monitor implementation of Rural Development Programmes in the states of Punjab and Himachal Pradesh.
General Jamwal along with large number of his supporters joined PDP today. |
