Kissan Goshthi under NFSM organized

Udhampur, Dec 1 : In order to "boost wheat production", a Kissan Goshthi was organized in village Patta, Zone Jib, Udhampur under CSS, National Food Security Mission (NFSM). More than 50 farmers from the surrounding villages and extension officers participated. While addressing the Kissan Goshthi, Dr.M.P.Gupta, State Consultant, highlighted various schemes of agriculture for welfare of farmers. He mentioned that NFSM is serving as vehicle to achieve food security for the nation. Thanks, food security bill has been passed which will provide quality food at affordable prices to 82 crore people in the country. It is estimated that 612 million tones food grains will be required to meet the food requirement which calls for gigantic efforts from Kashmir to Kanyakumari at level of field extension functionaries & farmers to boost cereal production. He further revealed that National Food Security Mission has been launched in six districts of the State namely: Udhampur, Jammu, Samba, Kathua, Leh & Kargil with emphasis to increase food production through the use of improved seed and management practices. In this behalf, all out efforts are being made to provide agri. inputs, incentives and technical "know-how" through season trainings and cluster demonstrations. As against a target of 12,300 ha area under cluster demonstration on wheat for the current year in the State, 1800 ha area alone will be covered under cluster demonstration besides 80 season trainings will be organized in Udhampur District, Added Dr.Gupta. On this occasion, Hoshiar Singh Sarpanch, revealed menace of monkey's attack on crops; lack of service centre for farm machinery. He further appreciated the efforts being made by Agriculture Department in providing incentives under different schemes & helping farmers to adopt modern technology. Sumit Kumar, SMS, Sub-division Udhampur gave vital tips on getting good yield of Wheat crop. Other who spoke on this occasion include: Surjit Singh, AEO, Jib, Narinder Pal Singh, JAEO, Jib.
