Javaid Naikoo SRINAGAR, Jan 1: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah who could not reach Srinagar on the eve of New Year celebrations due to heavy snowfall instead of showing sympathy with the people wrote on the social networking site Twitter that he wished to be in Valley to see 2014. In his first Tweet of the year, Chief Minister wrote "I wish I was in the Valley tonight to see in 2014, alas it wasn't to be. Anyway, am not sticking around till midnight so happy New Year," and added that he hopes 2014 brings in peace and prosperity to the people of the state and the country, while as in an another tweet he wrote that "Here's hoping 2014 is full of peace, happiness, success and prosperity for all of you and concluded that "May all your wishes come true, See U guys next year." Pertinently, Kashmir valley is receiving the season's heavy snowfall from last two days and as per reports most of main roads connecting District headquarters with rest of the Kashmir could not be cleared. People who contacted Early Times from different parts of North Kashmir complained of power cut. Similar reports have been received from Srinagar and South Kashmir. Meanwhile, 24 members of four families were rescued in Marsha Nallha-Kund of south Kashmir's Kulgam district today. MeT department has predicted light snowfall at isolated places in South Kashmir and Pirpanjal range. Besides it also predicted that weather may remain mainly dry for the next five days. Director MeT department, Sonum Lotus said: "As per reports received from IMD observations Srinagar recorded 0 cms of snowfall, Qazigund-12cms, Pahalgam-20cms, Kupwara-0cms, Kokernag-10cms, Banihal- rain with snow 10mm, Batote-rain with snow 7mm, Bhaderwah, Katra rain with snow 8mm. |
