Jammu, Jan 1: Research Scholars of the Department of Botany, University of Jammu, Jammu participated and presented their work in Two Day National Symposium on "Mushroom for Medicinal Value and Nutritional Security under Changing Climatic Conditions" held at Solan (Himachal Pradesh) from December 27-28, 2013. This prestigious national congregation was jointly organized by Department of Plant Pathology, Dr. Y S Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry, Nauni (Solan) and Indian Mushroom Growers Association, Solan and supported by Directorate of Mushroom Research, Chambaghat (H.P). The symposium was attended by more than 130 delegates from all across the country. A team of research scholars comprising of Dr. Sanjeev Kumar, Dimple Gupta, Harpreet Kour, Satvinder Kour, Rigzin Yangdol, Pratibha Lalotra and Suchita Sharma led by Prof. Yash Pal Sharma participated and made presentations on the Taxonomy and Mushroom Diversity of Jammu and Kashmir, their nutritional attributes, ethnomycology and post-harvest deterioration of some of the commercially important mushrooms. During the symposium, Dimple Gupta was awarded the best poster presentation prize for her work on post-harvest spoilage of mushrooms. The award was presented to her by the chief guest the Vice-Chancellor of Dr. Y S Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry, Nauni (Solan), Dr. Vijay S. Thakur. While congratulating these researchers of the University of Jammu, Prof. MP Singh Isher, the Vice-Chancellor, University of Jammu lauded their achievements and exhorted upon the young researchers to take up of the challenge of alleviating the malnutrition among the people by studying the nutraceutical potential and medicinal attributes of various edible mushrooms of the biodiversity rich State of Jammu and Kashmir. |
