| Remote areas still cut off, facing electricity cuts | | Post snowfall scenario | | Mustansir
Srinagar, Jan 11 : With no efforts from the state Government regarding road connectivity and to avail electricity supply, life in the remote and far-off villages of Kashmir valley has become miserable after incessant snowfall. Though authorities claims that road connectivity has been restored in entire Kashmir valley, however, the reports pouring in from remote areas in North and South Kashmir suggest that many areas are still cutoff from the rest of the valley particularly from district headquarters due to incessant snowfall and the residents braving the chill made their way through slippery paths to reach work places. The electricity supply lines in many areas stands damaged and electric polls grounded due to heavy snowfall resulting in chilly dark nights. Frequent jamming of the National-Highway, which is the only road link that connects Kashmir with rest of the country, due to non-stop snowfall makes life tough as essential supplies do not reach the valley on time. An anxious resident of Kapren Anantnag, Ashfaq said daily commuting has become troublesome due to continuous snowfall as public transport vehicles remain off the roads. "Roads get cut off and we face a lot of electricity problems because the wires, transformer get damaged. There is a huge problem for cooking gas as well. You can see that the roads are blocked now as well. There are no vehicles on the road. A vehicle comes after half an hour," said Ashfaq. "We are doing the cleaning wherever the beacon machines can reach but the places where it is not possible we are cleaning them with the help of tractors and even manually," said Tehsildar Dooru, Ghulam Rasool Bhat. |
