Mufti's fear forces NC to organise rally at Vijaypur

JAMMU, Jan 11: : Fear of growing popularity of People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Jammu region has forced ruling National Conference to organise a public meeting at Vijaypur to negate effect of Mufti Mohammad Sayeed in this belt.
On December 16, Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, patron of PDP had organised an impressive public rally at Vijaypur in which turn out of the people were unexpected, even PDP leadership had not excepted such a huge turnout.
Sources in the National Conference said that Mufti's rally at Vijaypur had shattered confidence of all parties especially ruling National Conference which always considered Vijaypur as its stronghold but December 16 rally was a warning signal for National Conference.
Sources said that the shattered National Conference leadership has no other option but to urge "annoyed" Surjit Singh Slathia to organise another rally to counter Mufti's rally.
Surjeet Singh Slathia, a mass base leader of National Conference was "ungracefully" asked to resign as Minister from the coalition on January 15 reshuffle but the National Conference has realized that he (Slathia) is only ray of hope for the party in Jammu district so he was asked to organise the rally.
Although both the parties are claiming that their rally attracted more people as compare to their rival, it is widely observed by the local residents that Mufti's rally was also as impressive as sitting Chief Minister's rally.
It was Mufti fear that Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and other leaders who addressed today's rally attacked PDP in their speeches. It is believed that real fight at Vijaypur would be among National Conference, BJP and Congress but Chief Minister and other National Conference leaders attacked PDP as they were finding it difficult to digest strengthen in Mufti's rally at Vijaypur on December 16.
