| Soz to contest from Budgam, PDP's Muntazir placed better in constituency | | | Bashir Assad SRINAGAR, Jan 11: PCC president, Professor Saif-ud-Din Soz has made his mind to contest the next Assembly elections from central Kashmir's Budgam constituency, sources said today. If the sources are to be believed, Soz has decided to contest the Assembly elections due in October this year from Central Kashmir's Budgam constituency. Pertinently, Budgam is currently represented by National Conference's Aga Ruhullah and both NC and PDP have high stakes in the constituency. Sources told Early Times today that though Soz has offers from South Kashmir's Shopian and North Kashmir's Baramulla constituencies but he would prefer Budgam over the two if at all he contests the elections. Senior Congress leader and MLC, Ghulam Nabi Monga when the decision was yet to be taken but added quickly that people of Budgam want Soz to contest from that constituency for better representation. Monga said that people from Shopian and Baramulla too want Soz to represent them in the next Assembly elections, however, he has not made up his mind as yet. But sources said that Soz who is presently putting at Airport colony falling under the jurisdiction of Budgam constituency is seriously considering to contest from that constituency. He has personal influence in the area and is involved in activities in the constituency so has intimacy with the people there" sources said adding that he was mulling the option very seriously. Meanwhile, opposition People’s Democratic Party is in dilemma as regards to the prospective candidate for Budgam constituency. Sources within party told Early Times that the party was in a fix about the prospective candidate for Budgam, "PDP has to make a choice between one time heavy weight and Shia cleric, Aga Sayed Mehmood and the veteran trade union leader, Mohiuddin Muntazir," sources said. They said the PDP leadership finds it difficult to choose between the two as both are equally popular among sections of society. They said though some senior party leaders favour candidature of Muntazir from Budgam but the leadership was yet to decide about the prospective candidate. They, however, said Muntazir has certainly an edge over Mehmood for his active involvement in social and philanthropic activities in the area and the party leadership cannot but appreciate his popularity. They said Muntazir's personal clout will add to the party's foothold in the constituency and so the chances of bagging it in the 2014 elections. |
