| BDO Dungi, BJP leader lock horns over MGNREGA works | | | ET Report
Rajouri, Jan 11: Inhabitants of Sasalkot panchyat in Dungi block in Rajouri district have approached the police alleging that the concerned Block Development Officer (BDO) has been demanding 10% advance commission for the works to be executed under MNREGA scheme. On the other hand Kartar Singh, BDO has also approached the police and senior officers claiming that he was being pressurized by some people including a BJP leader Sanjay Sharma to allow them to carry out development works under MGNREGA without rules and regulations laid down by the department. He said that few new works including cattle sheds have been introduced in MGNREGA scheme but these works would be for only those who falll under BPL or ST/SC categories. "But these persons were forcing me to allow them to execute these works and when refused they managed a physical attack on me in my office" said Kartar Singh. Sanjay Kumar Sharma, the BJP leader said that he visited the office of Kartar Singh, BDO at Dungi today and requested him to allow to start work, as told by him verbly, duly approved by the technical committee with a cost of Rs 80000 each. "He demanded 10% commission in advance. When I refused he said that he will release Rs25000 each for the works including two cattle sheds in Ramavtar and Muneer Mohalls" said Sanjay. He further said that the BDO also misbehaved with him and threatened to take action if I did not leave his office. Kumar along with panchyat members and inhabitants staged protest before the Chingus police post and moved two applications against BDO alleging that he had demanded bribe and misbehaved with the people. When contacted Kartar Singh said that some persons lead by one Sanjay Kumar were forcing him to execute some works under MGNREGA including cattle sheds without rules and regulations which was refused by him. "I requested them to approach my senior officers including ADC and DDC but agitated over my refusal they managed a physical assault on me inside my office and threatened me of dire consequences" said Kartar Singh , BDO. He added that he had approached the police against the miscreants including Sanjay Kumar and also brought the matter into the notice of ADC who also wrote to deputy commissioner for necessary action in this matter. Hemant Kumar Sharma , deputy commissioner when contacted said that he was not informed by the concerned officials about the incident hence he can't comment in this matter at this stage. I.Wani in-charge police post, Chingus said that both the parties have approached the police against each other. Before submitting report to the senior police officers for legal action, under corruption law, police will first; investigate the allegations leveled against the BDO, KAS officer. He (BDO) was also asked to produce the witnesses in this incident, added Wani. |
