| Modi wave rocks UPA’s boat as Abdullah clan reads writing on wall | | | AGENCIES
Gheta, Jan 29 : The Jammu & Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has an uncanny knack of remaining in the limelight. He is one of those politicians who knows the importance of visibility. And also what kind of rich dividends this visibility can pay off especially when the air is pregnant with the expectations of slew of announcements with respect to forging newer pre-poll alliances in this era of coalition. Before returning to Omar Abdullah, let us go through the current mood of the parties. Ever since the election tracker aired on the TV channels last week, has shown a sharp increase in the number of the BJP’s seat tally, the regional parties have been gearing up to become a part of the alliance that ends up on a winning note. The Congress-led UPA’s humiliating defeat is just a formality with the BJP’s Prime Ministerial candidate Narendra Modi going great guns with his agenda of development to woo voters. In this politically surcharged atmosphere leading to the Lok Sabha election, there will be many surprises in store. Narendra Modi’s magnetic personality is not only attracting voters of all age groups but also attracting allies who were once a part of the NDA and had chosen to call it quits thanks to the political compulsion of that particular day. In a startling piece of news, which is bound to invoke fair share of analysis, Chief Minister of Jammu & Kashmir Omar Abdullah is contemplating to severe ties with the Congress with the help of which his party has been in power in Jammu &Kashmir. He has set a deadline for this decision as February 1. If this threat becomes a reality, naturally Omar Abdullah will have to step down as Chief Minister of Jammu & Kashmir. The reason for this talk of divorce on the eve of the Valentine’s Day is the Congress’s non-cooperation for Omar Abdullah’s various pet projects in an anxious run-up to the Lok Sabha election. The saga of this bitter love-affair between the National Conference and the Congress does not end here. The National Conference chief Farooq Abdullah has expressed that his party welcomes Narendra Modi as the next Prime Minister of India. This support from an unexpected quarter has given a further shot of adrenaline to the Modimania in general and Narendra Modi’s Prime Ministerial campaign in particular. Ever since Narendra Modi has addressed a huge rally in Kashmir, the political parties from the Valley have been trying to grab his attention by sending him feelers. Having said this, the fortunes of the BJP have changed with the man from Gandhinagar leading his party from the front. A lot of water has passed under the bridge since NDA bowed out of the office in 2004. The Narendra Modi-led NDA of 2014 is a far cry from the Vajpayee-led NDA of 1999. The reason is Narendra Modi has taken a keen interest in exposing the shenanigans of the Congress-led UPA at the Centre and at the same time, he has been providing the country with solutions too. This has resulted in a groundswell of support in his and his party’s favour. The Abdullahs are seasoned politicians. They have read the writing on the wall. The Rahul Gandhi-led UPA is nowhere on the horizon. Who would like to continue its party’s association with the sinking ship? The Abdullahs are ready to jump from the sinking ship hoping the BJP will extend an olive branch to National Conference. |
