| JU turns media savvy ahead of Science Congress | | Bans entry of controversial scholar in campus | | K Koushal JAMMU, Jan 29: Notwithstanding the policy of the Jammu University administration to appease the voices of dissent within students and scholars by offering them temporary and contractual positions, University administration has this time restricted entry of a controversial scholar in the campus in a bid to keep off avoidable criticism ahead of and during National Science Congress. However, if sources are to be believed, University administration is in process of absorbing certain student leaders who have been raising their voices against its policies. Early Time has learnt that a student leader who raised issues of corruption within the University administration in loud voice is likely to be tamed by offering a position in the University. Documentary evidences in possession of Early Times suggest that Kapil Shastri who was earlier close to the Vice-Chancellor is on radar of the administration and has been issued a show cause notice vide letter number DSW/14/6050-52 dated 24-01-2014 and was asked to submit the reply by January 27 for allegedly organizing a press conference on 28-10-2013 in the campus and burning the effigy on the next day but he failed to do so and following this he was debarred from entering into the Jammu University campus. He was also suspended pending enquiry with immediate effect. Kapil has been alleged of tarnishing the image of the university by illegally trespassing the private E-mail ID of a contractual lecturer, Dr Ajay Kumar of Department of Remote Sensing and GIS for circulating a defamatory press release to the print and electronic media on 28.10.2013. University has issued another order wherein it has directed all the stake holders of the varsity to desist from issuing negative statements about the university without proper verification of facts and has asked them through the order to discuss only progressive issues with media and other members of civil society which are in the interest of University fraternity. |
