| Sub-Committee to submit report on time: Tara Chand | | Congress in damage control mode | | Asif Iqbal Naik JAMMU, Jan 29: A day after Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah threatened to resign over the delay in submission of report by Cabinet Sub-Committee on creation of new administrative units, senior Congress leader doing the much needed damage control announced that the committee will submit its report on time. While interacting with the media persons at Circuit House here, Deputy Chief Minister Tara Chand who is the chairman of Cabinet Sub Committee on creation of new administrative units today tried to reach out to National Conference by stating that the committee will submit its report on time. "We have held several meetings of Cabinet Sub-Committee and the report is almost in its final stage--- During these meetings we have received the demands of creation of 2000 to 2500 new small and major administrative units," said Tara Chand. He said that the committee has already intimated the Chief Minister in his last meeting that the it will submit its report in next Cabinet meeting as and when the same took place. He said that there is difference within the Government from our side and did not respond to the media queries with regard to threat given by the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah that he (Omar) will resign in case the committee fails to submit its report as per the NC aspiration. "We have no knowledge that he (Omar) is resigning---- we have no direct contact with Omar over this issue (Issue of threat of resignation)," said Tara Chand. He said that are certain snow bound areas of Jammu as well as in Kashmir that needs to be given a due consideration. He said that NC Minister Mir Saifullah also shows his concern over non inclusion of some areas from Kupwara district, beside areas in Anantnag, Leh and Kargil districts were also left out. He said that though Mushtaq Ganie Commission did excellent job in forming its report, but added that many genuine areas were left out by the said committee in its final report. He said that Congress only wants to ensure that all the three regions of the state get equal benefits in terms of creation of new administrative units. He said that Congress is committed towards creation of new administrative units and its implementation. Deputy CM was accompanied by PHE Minister Sham Lal Sharma, Housing and Urban Development Nawang Rigzin Jora, Tourism Minister Ghulam Ahmed Mir and other senior Congress leaders were also present on this occasion. Soon after condoning the crisis within the five year long coalition Government, Deputy Chief Minister rush back to Delhi for holding further talks with the senior party leadership. The sources within the Congress said that the deadlock between the two coalition partners is still continued. The sources added that Congress party wants to bargain with National Conference Government over the issue of incorporation of 73rd amendment in Jammu and Kashmir Panchayati Raj Act. Meanwhile, the Government has called for a Cabinet meeting on 1-2-2014 (Saturday) at 2.PM in Civil Secretariat Jammu to discuss the progress on Cabinet Sub Committee report on creation of new administrative units. As per the sources within GAD, the agenda/supplementary agenda/additional supplementary agenda for the meeting will remain same as was issued during previous meeting. |
