| JU road from Bikram Chowk to be closed from Feb 1 | | Hostel students asked to vacate | | Sandeep bhat
Jammu, Jan 29 : The 101 science congress will commence from Feb 3 in university of Jammu wherein more than 7000 delegates are expected to participate and will continue up to Feb 7th. This is for the first time that such a big event is being organized in the university of Jammu, where delegates from across the country and outside are participating in large numbers. So making this event incident free or to make it a grand success the university authorities have taken extreme steps. As per the reliable sources the students who are staying in the hostels in Jammu university are asked to leave by the university authorities. In the name of science congress the students have been given vacations till Feb 10th. A scholar said that this is happening for the first time that university authorities are asking the students to leave the hostel. Many events have happened before also during professor Amitabh Mattoo's tenure as Vice Chancellor but never were the students asked to leave university hostel. The road form Bikram chowk to Jammu university will be closed from Feb 1st upto Feb 7th till the closing of science congress. This road has never been closed for such a long period before. Already there is huge traffic on the city roads, the commuters used this road as the main road to reach their destinations. This road is the main connectivity between tawi bridge and areas like Bahu plaza(where majority of govt and pvt offices are stationed like Div com office, J&K bank Information deptt Police, Headquarters. Railway station BSNL office etc) and the areas like Trikuta nagar. Gandhi nagar extension, Channi Narwal Railway colony etc. MAM college students also have been given vacations form Feb 1st to Feb 10th as the college premises will be used as parking of vehicles belonging to delegates, professors, and all others who will attend the science congress. It is a good thing to have a international level event in Jammu but should not be at the cost of creating problems for the ordinary citizens of the city. Despite repeated attempts to contact the university authorities for their version they were not reachable |
