| AAP gets 8000 members in North Kashmir | | To contest LS, LA elections | | Syed Tahir Bukhari
BARAMULLA, Feb 23: After gaining name and fame in Delhi and other parts of the country the Aam Admi Party (AAP) led by Arvind Kejriwal has been able to register more than 8,000 people as basic members in the North Kashmir region within a span of two weeks. The AAP started its membership drive in North Kashmir on February 7 and in a short span of two weeks more than 8000 people have been registered with the party. The party is all set to contest upcoming assembly and parliamentary elections in the state. "We started out office in North Kashmir's Baramulla District on February 7 and since then people from every nook and corner are joining this party under the slogan NIKLO BAHAR MAKANO SE, JUNG LADO BEIMMANO SE (come out of your homes and fight against corrupt people). AAP is busy in registering the workers across the North Kashmir as basic members," said Ashiq Hussain Ganai, Convener cum incharge AAP for North Kashmir. A former Territorial Army Man and activist of Backward Democratic Party, Ashiq son of retired Police Sub Inspector, Ghulam Mohammad Ganai of Khwaja Bagh Baramulla claims that he has been assigned the job as in-charge for the forth coming elections from North Kashmir's Bandipora, Kupwara and Baramulla districts. "Kupwara District has highest 5500 members followed by Bandipora with 1700 and Baramulla 1050 members respectively. Almost 500 women have joined the party ranks from North Kashmir. I don't feel myself secure here as it is Kashmir and want to have a security cover," said Ashiq. The demand made by Ashiq with regard to security cover is somewhat against the basic preamble since the AAP leaders have declined official security status along with other privileges which a political personality or leader is entitled to. It would be in place to mention here that on January 01, 2013 grenade was thrown towards Ashiq's house by unknown gunmen. The grenade exploded with a big bang causing damage to his house. It is due to this reason that Ashiq wants security so that there is no threat to his life. A party worker Ghulam Nabi Wani said that he along with other AAP workers want to make Jammu and Kashmir state free from corruption, unemployment and other burning issues that have crippled the whole state in the past. "Democracy is popular self rule, but the current practice of democracy negates this ideal and reduces the citizens to mere subjects. Aam Aadmi Party aims to restore power to the people of Jammu & Kashmir since the people living over here have suffered a lot," said Ghulam Nabi. |
