Jammu, Feb 23: In yet another instance of poor planning while raising infrastructure for Kashmiri Pandit migrants, the Relief Organization has constructed prefabricated accommodation at Khanpur Transit to the tune of several Crores, without provision of water facility to the allottes of these structures. Well placed sources informed Early Times that the Relief Organization had constructed transit accommodation for Kashmiri Pandit migrants in valley at Vessu (Qazigund), Hall (Shopian), Khanpur (Baramulla) and Nutus (Kupwara) worth Rs 105 Crores in the year 2010, but the authorities intentionally ignored to create water supply infrastructure to give advantage to private supplier. "Khanpur transit accommodation is situated along the river Jhelum, but the poor planning of the concerned authorities have been claiming huge amount on state exchequer, since December 2010", sources said, adding that the organization has hired water tankers for water supply in the accommodation. "About Rs 2500 to Rs 2800 is being paid to private water supplier on daily bases," said a PHE employee from Baramulla division, adding that by end February 2014 the amount would be more than 30 lakhs. On being asked if there was any proposal to create any infrastructure for water supply in the accommodation, the PHE official said that the accommodation did not fall under PHE's jurisdiction. "Since the accommodation was created by the Relief Organization, it their duty to create infrastructure", he said, adding that since the prefab quarters in Khanpur were situated along Jhelum river, water supply scheme could be created without any hurdle. Callousness of Relief Organization's toward KPs was also creating trouble for PHE, as an amount of Rs 7 lakhs has been paid by the organization. |
