NSF demands protection of Mubarak Mandi complex
3/29/2014 10:27:37 PM
Early Times Report

JAMMU, Mar 29: National Secular Forum (NSF) today staged protest demonstration against Jammu-based politicians and sitting Member Parliaments (MPs) of Jammu division for his alleged failure to make "sincere efforts" to protect the Mubarak Mandi complex.
Addressing a gathering here today, District President NSF, Rishikesh Rana said the working of both MPs hailing from Jammu province, exposed their double standards and lip service attitude. "Before elections, these MPs were claiming to make every possible effort to end discrimination with Jammu region and ensure its overall development, but after getting elected they were found least bothered about the issues of development and discrimination", he said.
Rana said that the crumbling historic Mubarak Mandi complex the royal residence of erstwhile Dogra rulers in Jammu and Kashmir-is dying a slow death and it craves for a new lease of life.
Ironically, the Jammu-based politicians-who claim to be the protectors of Dogra heritage-had been maintaining a cryptic silence over the continuous delay in start of renovation work which was halted two and half-a-years ago. There were a total of 29 projects under the renovation plan and the Central government had sanctioned Rs 52 crore under 13th Finance Commission and Rs 16 crore under mega tourism project.
"The funds had been lying unused with the authorities concerned but they failed to re-start renovation work. It is ironical that Jammu-based politicians have maintained a criminal silence over the issue. It appears they are least bothered about the ruining heritage," said Rana.
