| As governance takes backstage, Inf deptt news files 'shrink' in content | | Prime files reflect deterioration in selection of news | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Mar 29: Call it bankruptcy of content or insignificant events making prime news stuff by state's prestigious and elephant sized Information Department, the news desks in almost all newspapers are facing a tough time to shift the news matter these days, most of which is not worth use for inside pages as well. The standard of the news stuff provided by the Information Department in sets has deteriorated considerably, all thanks to governance by NC led coalition Government which has taken a back seat on account of pre occupation of entire Government with the Election process. While the news sets provided by the Information Department have seen shrinking of any news related to functioning of the Government for a long time, soon after the Parliamentary elections were announced, the Department officials are choosing this news vacuum to be filled by non events, that too through prime sets which are sent in order of importance of the news items spread in them. Normally, in routine, as has been the precedence with predecessors of this Government, the first couple of sets sent to news papers and scribes would constitute at least one or two such news items with details of vital aspects of Government functioning, any important statement related news by the Chief Minister or during the course of polls in the wake of MCC by administrative heads. But it has become rare, rather non existent and the news sent these days reflect pathetic selection of the officers concerned in compiling the first two files, not to speak of the subsequent sets which has nothing but crap in content. The irony remains these files are being sent in the name of Director Information. It was so atleast in the first two files sent today which were not only unworthy of making any news but acutely deficient in content, as the events itself were not at all significant for any news desk. While the election related news made some sense no matter it too remained centralized on taking stock of preparedness etc, the subsequent stuff which formed a sizable chunk offered some reading of items related to public awareness camps, workshops, orientation programmes, mulberry drive....so on and so forth. However, what made the first file look completely a ridiculous set was a couple of super annuation related news items of some officials of different departments making news in the Information Department desk. But they too are helpless as there is nothing from the seat of governance or by the rulers at the moment which they could choose to dwell upon . |
