| MIER holds orientation on Earth Hour-2014 | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Mar 29: MIER College of Education gave an orientation to the staff and students on Earth Hour-2014 which is being celebrated internationally with an aim to create awareness regarding conservation of energy. About 120 students of Environmental Education of the College participated in the session conducted on the occasion. The session included a pledge, a lecture, orientation on observation of Earth Hour and initiation of energy auditing at homes. Monika Bajaj In-charge Environment Unit started the session by a pledge on conservation of energy. She then gave a lecture on energy conservation which is the main motive of celebrating the Earth Hour internationally. She said that energy is the most important component of our life and we cannot afford to waste this essential resource. Hence we all should device and implement ways and means to conserve it. She also extended a warm welcome to all present. The students also participated enthusiastically and put forth their views before the audience on the conservation of energy resources. They urged the audience to use practical measures to conserve energy. The audience was told to observe the Earth Hour today from 8.30 to 9.30 pm and keep their lights and non essential electrical equipments switched off during this hour. Furthermore they were advised to conduct energy audits at their respective homes from time to time so that they can devise ways and means to reduce energy usage. Dr. Renu Gupta, Director MIER group of institutions appreciated the initiatives taken by the Environment Unit to spread awareness about pertinent environmental issues. |
