| NC-Congress's defeat imminent, predicts upbeat PDP | | Farooq Abdullah's News X interview | | Rustam
JAMMU, Apr 24: The main opposition political party in the Kashmir Valley, People's democratic Party (PDP), on Wednesday predicted doom for the Congress and National Conference (NC) in the elections and asserted that it would perform exceedingly well in Kashmir. "Farooq Abdullah (NC president and Union Minister for renewable energy) is behaving like a rat on a sinking ship, blaming all others except himself. Their (NC-Congress coalition's) defeat in Kashmir is imminent," said PDP spokesperson Naeem Akhtar. He was reacting to the Farooq Abdullah's admission that "it's all over" for the Congress-led UPA of which the NC is an integral part. In an interview to news channel News X on Wednesday, Farooq Abdullah admitted that the Congress-led UPA is in deep trouble and it has lost the game. The country's ruling alliance might face a defeat in the Lok Sabha election; AICC vice-president Rahul Gandhi committed a wrong by delaying his entry into proactive politics; the UPA failed to contain the price rise and its inability to fight hard against corruption, led them referred to as thieves, thieves and thieves; what we should have done, we did not do; they (UPA) will pay for it; there is no use digging the grave; they (UPA) have made mistakes," he told his interviewer. The UPA failed to contain price rise, which was one of the "biggest" mistakes, he also said, adding that this was the reason for the defeat of the Congress in Delhi in December last. What Farooq Abdullah said during the interview was nothing but an admission that the Congress-led UPA of which the NC is also a part has become thoroughly unpopular across the country, including Jammu & Kashmir, and that its electoral chances are highly bleak. What, however, was surprising was the timing of his interview. He gave interview just on the eve of election to the prestigious Anantnag Lok Sabha seat from where PDP president and Leader of opposition in the Assembly Mehbooba Mufti is seeking election. Her main political rival is Mehboob Beg of the NC who is one of the bitterest critics of the Indian Constitution and he never missed any opportunity to make common cause with the Kashmiri separatists and other hostile forces. That Farooq Abdullah made highly critical statements against the UPA Government just 24 hours before the commencement of voting in Anantnag could be construed as an admission that the NC could lose this seat to Mehbooba Mufti. And what Naeem Akhar said in reaction to what Farooq Abdullah said is quite understandable. Indeed, the NC-Congress coalition is in trouble. |
