| Stone pelting shuts Sopore | | Militants give slip to SF | | Syed Tahir Bukhari BARAMULLA, Apr 24: Panic gripped North Kashmir's Baramulla district when a group of youth suddenly appeared in the market and asked shopkeepers to put down their shutters. In another incident militants managed to give a slip to Government forces in Sopore Town. According to reports, the youth pelted stones on shops and CRPF bunker stationed inside State Bank of India. Life was normal in Sopore town when suddenly scores of youth appeared in the market and enforced shutdown there. The youth amid pro-freedom and pro-election boycott slogans resorted to stone-pelting as a result the market presented a deserted look. Government forces used tear-smoke shells to disperse the protestors. Reports said that the clashes between youth and police continued for hours at different places in Sopore town. Sources in the Police Department said that some youth were protesting against the arrest of some people who have been arrested by police on the charges of stone-pelting. These miscreants pelted stones on shopkeepers and CRPF as a result there was partial shutdown in the town In Bandipora's Hajin town, youth clashed with the Government Forces following the detention of a Tehreek-i-Hurriyat, Abdul Hamid Parray activist. Reports said that police picked up the Tehreek-i-Hurriyat activist during a nocturnal raid. Clashes between youth and Government Forces also broke out in main town Bandipora today morning even as a complete shutdown was observed. Meanwhile, a group of militants today managed to give slip to Government forces after a brief exchange of fire in Sopore town of North Kashmir's Baramulla District. According to reports Government forces after receiving a tip-off about the presence of militants in Dagiwacha area of the Sopore town, cordoned off the area. At least three militants, believed to be from Lashkar-e-Toiba, were asked to surrender but they fired at the troopers. After the brief exchange of fire the militants managed to give slip to troopers, reports said. Forces conducted searches in the area but made no contact with the militants, sources said. A police officer said that the militants may have fled. |
