Anantnag may spell doom for NC

Early Times Report
JAMMU, Apr 24: The gradual though subtle increase in polling percentage in Anantnag constituency is worrying trend for National Conference. According to reports, despite the best of the efforts of the National Conference, which had all the resources at its disposal, the voter turnout suggests that it's vote for change, like in other parts of the country.
According to sources, the National Conference had made it a point to defeat PDP president Mehbooba Mufti. It had devised a special strategy as its game plan was if Mehbooba is defeated that it will spell doom for the party and it could be to the advantage of the National Conference.
The significant shift in the last 72-hours with the killing and threatening calls for poll boycott. The stage was set as per the game plan of NC but it took a turn.
The voters did come out though in some districts the poll percentage was quite low.
PDP had won this seat in 1999 also in 2004 when NC-Cong contested jointly, it lost by a margin of about 13,000 though it was mainly attributed the defeat because of the supposedly weak candidate of the PDP.
This time Mehbooba herself is contesting and this made a dramatic change. According to reports, though NC was banking on its committed cadre to vote and make it candidate win, the youth and general masses who were disillusioned with the policies of the NC did also turn up.
The reports suggest that even at some places police personnel tried to dissuade the voters, read voters of PDP. Even at some places some suspicious people were seen roaming around the polling stations to dissuade the PDP cadre.
Another thing which worked against the NC was that Congress voters didn't work and go out to vote for NC candidate. The Congress workers had a grudge against the NC as they had been sidelined and now on voting day, they had shown their resentment, the reports suggest.
The PDP was bit shaky when the polling started on low note, but with gradual picking up, it suggested that winds of change had started blowing in the valley also, despite all odd stacked against the people.
