Police cracks 'blind murder case', 2 held

Jammu, Apr 24: With the arrest of two persons, the police claimed to have cracked the blind murder case wherein one body was found in River Tawi under the 4thBridge on Tawi (Belicharana) on April 16, bearing multiple injuries over the head and other parts. A case stands registered u/s 302 RPC at Police Station Satwari.
"The accused have been identified namely as Harjeet Singh s/o Baldev Singh r/o Trehat, District Rajouri presently in Muthi and Arjun Singh s/o Dhunda Singh r/o Makwal District Jammu," police spokesperson said.
"On 16/04/2014 a dead body was found in River Tawi under the Fourth Bridge Belicharana having multiple injuries over the head and other parts of the body, the police spokesperson said and added, "on receiving the information, a murder case under section 302 RPC was registered in Police Station Satwari and the investigation process was put in motion.
During the investigation, identity of deceased was established as Pritam Singh s/o Rattan Singh r/o Gole Gujral Jammu.
Police spokesperson said that, the police got its initial lead from the tyre prints of a tractor - trolley that were noticed at the scene of the crime. "Besides tyre prints of the tractor -trolley at the crime spot, police also found a broken shovel ('belcha') from the scene of crime, he added.
Several suspects were picked up for questioning and during investigation two persons namely Harjeet Singh and Arjun Singh confessed their involvement in the crime.
"Both of them have been arrested after their admittance of their involvement in the crime, police said.
Quoting accused, police spokesperson said, "During interrogation the accused disclosed at around 11 pm on 16/04/2014 the duo had gone to the Tawi river bed for sand mining.
"The deceased was employed as a guard by a private company on the construction site of the artificial lake near the Fourth Bridge, and in the course of performance of his duty, he tried to stop the duo but the latter struck the deceased with a shovel ('belcha') several times on his head leading to Pritam Singh's death, police added. Besides weapon of offence shovel the police have also seized the tractor- trolley used by the accused duo, police said adding, "further investigations in the case are in progress."
