Mendhar, Apr 24 : Social Welfare Department (SWD) buildings are in dilapidated conditions in the Poonch town and the militancy affected children living under these rooftops are suffering but the concerned Minister was busy in election campaigning. See political inertia! Nari Niketan Mendhar which houses militancy-affected children and was upgraded by the army under Operation Sadbhavana last year is in shambles due to neglect of state government. The building houses over 30 orphans and was built between 2006-2007. "Children living in Nari Niketan usually get five quintal wheat, rice and 30 kg mix pulses and other food items every month but the inmates are not getting the same for the past quite sometime", maintained sources. The daily allowance of Rs 50 sanctioned by the government too is not being distributed among inmates. Sources further said that an NGO has provided 35 chairs and sewing machine, three computers and four water coolers last year but now only 10 chairs, one water cooler and one TV is available and that too is kept in the in charge's room. In the past some demonstrations have also been witnessed against the state government by the inmates living under these rooftops.Few days back, about 10 children fell ill but due to lack of medical facilities, they were not treated. When contacted, concerned Minister Sakina Itoo, She said-"I am busy in election campaigning right now, I will call you later". |
