Migrants protest over exclusion of names from voter lists, allege conspiracy

JAMMU, Apr 24: The Kashmiri migrants today protested in front of various polling booths in Jammu protesting against non inclusion of their names in voter lists despite submission of M Forms by them. The protests were held by Kashmiri migrants hailing from Anantnag -Pulwama Parliamentary Constituency at various polling booths in Jammu, Udhampur and Delhi. Over 50 Kashmiri migrants staged a demonstration at the polling booth in front of SKISMS J, Station, Udaywala raising slogans against the authorities, accusing them of conspiracy. They also contacted ARO Migrants as well as Election Observer and warned them to take the issue with Election Commission of India. The protestors said it was a deliberate attempt to benefit the ruling alliance by non inclusion of migrant votes in the lists. They said out of 42,000 votes of Kashmiri Pandits in Anantnag -Pulwama Parliamentary Constituency only 27,200 have been shown in the voter lists by the Government while only 8000 names have been included in final voter lists by the authorities on the pretext that others have not either filled up their M Forms or they were incomplete in various respects. B L Dhar a voter from Pahalgam Constituency in Anantnag district who has come to cast his vote at Director School education Muthi where two polling booth were opened by the authorities for Kashmiri migrants said his entire family was missing in the voter lists. A large number of migrants including old men and women had to return without casting their votes from polling booths. Another protest was held at Jagti township by hundreds of migrants who protested againt the non inclusion of their names in voter lists and termed it a deliberate attempt of Government in depriving the migrants from their democratic right.
They demanded re-polling on all migrant booths with Baramulla and Ladakh parliamentary seats by enumerating the voter lists and inclusion of all 42,000 KP voters' names in voter lists. At Gandhi Nagar polling booth hundreds of migrants returned without casting their votes. Same was case with Statistical office polling booth at Janipur, HSS polling booth at Roop Nagar, Panchayat Ghar polling booth at Dharmal and Udhampur. Reports reaching here from Udhampur said that names of hundreds migrants were missing from voter lists which evoked a strong protest from migrants. It may be recalled that Government has established 18 polling stations for migrants at different places in the country. Out of them 13 polling booths were set up at Jammu, one at Udhampur and four at new Delhi.
