Ladakhis to punish Congress: Hari Om
4/25/2014 10:58:00 PM
Early Times Report

Jammu, Apr 25: The aggrieved, humiliated, cheated and grossly ignored people of Ladakh will inflict a crushing defeat on the Congress candidate seeking election to the Lok Sabha from the lone Ladakh Parliamentary seat and vote overwhelmingly for BJP candidate and former Lok Sabha MP Thupstan Chhewang to strength the hands of the BJP's PM nominee Narendra Modi, said Hari Om, Political advisor to BJP State President jugal Kishore Sharma, on Friday in a statement.
He was reflecting on the prevailing election scene in the cold-desert Ladakh, which remains cut off from the rest of the country for half of the year.
"A very strong anti-Congress and anti-NC wave is blowing across the strategic Ladakh region. The Modi effect is there as in the rest of the country. The people of Ladakh, especially inhabiting the Leh district and Zanskar tehsil in the Kargil district, are seething with anger, which is directed against the Congress candidate.
What has added more to the anger of the already rather angry people of Ladakh was the U-turn of the Congress on the UT status to Ladakh under the baneful influence of the Kashmir-based pro-autonomy and pro-self-rule forces," said Prof Hari Om, adding that the solemn commitment held out by the BJP that it will grant UT status to Ladakh in case the BJP-led NDA is voted to power in New Delhi has won over the hearts and minds of the Ladakhis.
Hari Om tore into the Kashmiri leaders like Saif-ud-Din Soz, the Muftis, Sheikh Ghulam Rasool and Mehboob Beg of the NC and Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami of the CPI-M for their communally motivated statement that the grant of UT status to Ladakh would result in the disintegration of the state and redraw its political map and said that the people of Ladakh have nothing whatsoever in common with the Kashmiri leadership.
"The demand of the Ladakhis for a separate political and administrative set up is as genuine as it deserves a favourable consideration at the earliest," he said, and added that they have been struggling for a separate regime within India and under the Indian Constitution since 1947 itself, when Indian Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru hatched a conspiracy against Jammu and Ladakh and transferred the stare power to Sheikh Abdullah of the NC, who was known for his anti-Dogra bias and pro-autonomy views.
