Arrest of father son duo trigger clashes in Hajin

BARAMULLA, Apr 25: After the arrest of a member of Tehreek-e-Hurriyat and his son on Thursday, clashes erupted between youth and government forces afterFriday congregational prayers in Hajin town of North Kashmir's Bandipora district.
Clashes erupted after Friday prayers when scores of youth at main market near Public Health Center (PHC) where hundreds of youth gathered and shouted pro-freedom slogans. The youth were protesting against the arrest of a member of Tehreek-e-Huriyaat (G) and his son from the town.
Reports said Police during a nocturnal raid arrested Abdul Hamid Parray who is a member of Tehreek-e-Hurriyat headed by Hardliner Syed Ali Shah Geelani. As the news of Parray's arrest spread in the town and its adjoining areas on Fridaymorning scores of youth assembled at the main market and raised pro freedom and anti India slogans.
Eyewitnesses said that hundreds of men, women and youth came on roads in Hajin and resorted to stone-pelting. The protestors were demanding for release of Parray's son Hilal Ahmad Parray who is pursuing M.Phil from Aligarh Muslim University.
Sources said, "Hilal who is perusing M.phil is an innocent as he had visited his home few days back, and was about to leave in a week's time for his university"
Eyewitness said that three persons were injured during the clashes while police and CRPF used scores of tear-smoke shells to disperse the protestors.
Policemen and CRPF troopers deployed there resorted to baton charge and fired tear smoke canisters to disperse them. Protesters offered stiff resistance and retaliated by pelting stones in the ensuing clashes number of youth, including few policemen and youth sustained injuries, said eyewitness.
Youth tried to take out a march, but were stopped by the forces which were deployed in the town to thwart protests. Youth clashed with forces men who fired tear smoke canisters to disperse them.
Police official said "Abdul Hamid Parray was arrested on charges of instigating people against the government. " Some miscreants are the continuous source of nuisance and disruption of peace in the area that are instigating the people" an officer said.
The sumbal area in Bandipora District has seen worst clashes in the recent months. Whereas matter of the fact is the cavalcade of local National Conference leader Mohammad Akbar Lone has been attacked with stones on several occasions.
The clashes were going on till last reports came in.
