| Pakistan again pokes its dirty nose in India's internal affairs | | Kashmir is India's | | Neha JAMMU, Apr 25: Pakistan on April 24 once again poked its dirty communal nose in the internal affairs of India and shamelessly said that elections are no solution to the so-called Kashmir issue or no substitute for plebiscite in Jammu and Kashmir State. The nasty, atrocious and provocative statement came at a time when the voting for the Lok Sabha polls in Kashmir's Anantnag constituency was in progress and people, of course, in small numbers were venturing out of their houses braving all odds, including threat to their life and limb. Only 28 per cent of the voters in this constituency exercised their franchise. PDP president and Leader of Opposition in the Legislative Assembly Mehbooba Mufti and sitting MP and NC leader Mehboob Beg were the main contenders. "Election in the state is not a substitute for plebiscite. Absolutely not," said Pakistan's Foreign Office spokesperson Tasnim Aslam at Islamabad when asked if the election in the state was an alternative to a plebiscite. "This is the position of United Nations resolutions as well that any elections in Indian-Occupied-(Jammu &) Kashmir are not an alternative to the exercise of their right to self-determination". Indeed, Tasnim Aslam crossed the line when she said what she said to undermine the significance of democratic processes in Jammu and Kashmir. It was clear from her statement that Islamabad will not reform itself and that it would continue to interfere in the India's internal affairs. But gone are the days when Islamabad would exploit the weak-kneed policies of the Congress-led UPA Government, which undermined the Indian sovereignty from time to time to pander to the rouge Pakistan and Kashmiri separatists and rank communalists. The days of the Congress-led UPA Government are only numbered. It would be out after May 16, when the election results will be declared. AICC vice-president Rahul Gandhi and NC president and Union Minister Farooq Abdullah have already conceded defeat even before the election process in the country is over. Rahul Gandhi conceded defeat on April 22 while giving an interview to ETV and Farooq Abdullah conceded defeat a day later while giving an interview to News X. Obviously, it is the BJP-led NDA which will replace the Congress-led UPA Government at the Centre and the would-be Prime Minister Narendra Modi has already made it loud and clear that the Indian foreign policy vis-a-vis Pakistan and other nations will be guided solely by the paramount national interests and that New Delhi would not tolerate any non-sense or any interference in the internal affairs of the country. It's time for Islamabad to refashion its whole approach towards Jammu and Kashmir, which is legitimately India, to avoid an appropriate response from New Delhi under the BJP-led NDA. It would also well to quit Pakistan-occupied-Jammu and Kashmir at the earliest failing which the Indian nation would be left with no other option but to act to protect and promote further its legitimate geo-political and economic interests. |
