600 Kargil passengers airlifted in IL76 to Ladakh

Jammu, Apr 25: Indian Air Force (IAF) once again came to the assistance of stranded civilian of Ladakh despite after yesterday IL76 wing engine suddenly wedged due to some technical problem in the engine of IL-76 AT Leh Airport.
But today they manage to launched special sortie of an IL76 from Udhampur Jammu to Leh and Leh to Udhampur Jammu and yesterday from Srinagar to Leh and back on being requisitioned by the Aamir Ali, State Coordinator AN32 Courier Service, said Liaison officer, Jammu Master Mohd Kazim and Mohd Hassan, Naib Tehsildar DC office Kargil, is currently assigned on special duty as Liaison officers at Jammu.
Liaison Officer of Jammu Mohd Hassan said total 600 stranded passengers of Kargil were airlifted in IL-76 Indian Air Force plane between Udhampur Jammu-Leh and Srinagar-Leh. He said today 293 passengers including women and children were air lifted both ways in IL-76, he added passengers were airlifted from Jammu to Leh 119 from Leh to Srinagar and 77 similarly from Srinagar to Leh 230 and Leh to Srinagar 77 passenger were uplifted in IL76 yesterday "Subject to the weather Condition, two sorties of AN32 (small aircraft) Kargil Courier have been planned in between Jammu/Kargil and Srinagar/Kargil on 25th April, but due to bad weather in Kargil today, the N-32 Flight operation again Cancelled.The Passengers who traveled today expressed their gratitude to Indian
Air Force as well as Chief Executive Councilor, LAHDC Kargil, Asgar Ali Karbalaiee, Sh. Amir Ali, state coordinator (Secretary J&K Cooperative Society) for IL-76/N32 for facilitating the airlift of the stranded passengers," he added.
Zoojela-Pass is the only life line to Ladakh region, this High Pass closed every year for more than six month due to heavy snowfall. The only option is left to flying choppers or small aircrafts from Kargil and regular air services from Leh. Two tunnels are being planned - work on first one starts this year, to manage Zoojee La so that Ladakh remains accessible round the year.
