| DB directs authorities to file compliance report | | PIL regarding traffic Jams due to unplanned digging in Jammu City | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Apr 29 : In the larger interest of Public of Jammu city, a PIL was filed by two advocates namely Ashish Sharma and Deepak Singh Baloria against unplanned digging and frequent traffic jams in Jammu and submitted that the entire process of digging of roads was so mis-managed that the same were left dug up for months together with either little or no progress. Not only this, the roads where sewerage pipes had been laid, the agencies responsible for metalling the same were absolutely callous in the discharging duty. A Division Bench of State High Court comprising Justice Mohammad Yaqoob Mir and Justice Muzaffar Hussain Attar observed that compliance reports as were required to be filed by various authorities in terms of earlier order have not been filed. According to earlier order dated April 3, 2014 (whereby Division Bench observed that some of the areas which are still in dark, are the approximate expenditure incurred for preparing the roads for blacktopping by ERA, have not been revealed in the status report as also the nature and quality of work which is undertaken by the ERA before handing over the roads for blacktopping/maca-damization. Various agencies like PWD(R&B), NBCC, Municipal Corporation and other agencies are involved in the work of blacktopping. The thickness of the blacktopping and the approximate age to which it could last as per the stipulations in the contract agreement has also not been highlighted.
